Support for Referees

Referee Mentoring

Mentoring is a useful way for referees to get support from colleagues, usually in the early stages of their career.

Worcestershire FA is proud to guarantee face to face mentoring support for all new referees. Everyone who completes The FA Referee Course with Worcestershire FA is appointed a mentor who will watch at least one of your first five matches. They will also be a point of contact via phone/email and aim to watch a second match out of your first ten. The County FA has a Mentor Coordinator, Jerry Curtis, who works with the Development Team and our mentor workforce to ensure that this support is effective.

We have already seen our referee retention increased from around 50% to 80% in the first 12 months of our mentor scheme.

Referee Meetings

Attending a local Referees’ Association (RA) is a great way to learn and develop with colleagues. These fun and interactive monthly meetings are held across the county and utilise a number of ways to enhance the experience available to referees. Guest speakers, match observations, quiz nights and social events all take place through Local RAs. Contact your local RA secretary to find out when the next meeting is!
