Futsal is a five-a-side game, normally played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce. It is played to touchlines and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the ball over head-height. Games are 20 minutes per half, played to a stopping clock (similar to basketball) with time-outs permitted.
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided football game that is widely played across the world. The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure, and is subsequently an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game.
Many of the top world class footballers (Pele, Messi, Ronaldo and Fabregas) played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their footballing development.

There are nearly 30,000 small sided teams playing across the country. This significant figure is continuing to grow and expand at a rapid rate and it is anticipated that the number of small sided football teams will overtake the number of adult male 11 v 11 teams.
Small sided football is identified in the National Game Strategy as one of The FA’s key growth targets for adult football. The popularity of this format of football is a reaction to changing work and leisure patterns and a move towards ‘pay and play’ football. This gives people the flexibility that they need, to fit in a game of football into their busy schedule.

Walking Football is a new format of football aimed at encouraging older adults to play football again, on a regular basis.
The game comprises of the same rules as 11v11 football, except players are not permitted to run. As a result the game relies less on physical attributes such as speed, power and stamina, and more on accurate passing, good positional play, and strong tactical knowledge.
This particular format engages an age group that is not normally associated with playing the game, and gives footballers over 50 years old the opportunity to re-kindle their playing days and stay active!
Walking Football is certainly not played as you may see in the Premier League- it is very adaptable, can be played at any level of skill and is open to men and women of all ages and abilities.
