WORCESTERSHIRE FA WILL HOST A WALKING FOOTBALL FESTIVAL IN SUPPORT OF THE BOBBY MOORE FUND AND CANCER RESEARCH UK
Worcestershire FA is pleased to announce an all-inclusive Walking Football Festival taking place in August in support of the Bobby Moore Fund and Cancer Research UK (full details at the end).
Walking Football is a new format of football aimed at encouraging older adults and those suffering from injuries to play again at a pace that suits them.
This particular format engages an age group that isn’t normally associated with playing football, and gives footballers over 50 the opportunity to rekindle their playing days and stay active!
According to the Telegraph, it has been estimated that nearly half of the over-fifties in the UK do little or no exercise.
Walking Football is a fantastic opportunity to regularly exercise, socialise, and to try a new way of reigniting a passion for the beautiful game.
The game comprises of the same rules as standard football, except players are not permitted to run. As a result, the game relies less on physical attributes such as speed, power and stamina, focusing more on accurate passing, good positional play and strong tactical knowledge.
Worcestershire FA’s Walking Football Festival will be fully inclusive with participants of all abilities, over the age of 16, encouraged to enter.
The festival will be played 6-a-side, with up to 9 players per team. Mixed gender teams are also encouraged to enter.
Team entry will cost £66 per team. This will be paid through a designated Just Giving page, meaning the proceeds will go directly to charity.
