Bobby Moore Fund Walking Football Festival

On Saturday 1st July Worcestershire FA in partnership with Welland Junior FC delivered a walking football festival in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund as part of a nationwide fundraising effort from the FA. The event was a huge hit with almost 100 participants attending on the day across 9 teams.

The purpose of the festival was to be completely inclusive and open to anyone over the age of 16. Teams included established walking football clubs from across Worcestershire and Gloucestershire as well as teams which were created for the day by local players, parents, coaches and supporters from Welland FC men’s and ladies teams plus individuals from the local community all turning out to raise money for charity.

The festival and fundraising activities were hosted at The YMCA Hill Centre near Upton-Upon-Severn on grass pitches with teams playing 6aside fixtures.  Results were not recorded in an aim to emphasising participation and involvement from those who had not played this version of the game before. There was a brilliant atmosphere around the venue all day with family and friends turning up to support the players and getting involved in the other fundraising events. Both men and women of all ages took part and everyone was clearly having fun and enjoying the occasion, with music being provided by the fantastic ‘PeppaSound’.  It was a brilliant advert for walking football and it is clear to see why the game is growing so quickly. At the end of the festival the charity raffle took place with prizes donated by The FA, County FA and donations from Welland Junior FC. Thanks to the efforts of everyone on the day and in the build-up to the event, £712 was raised for the Charity!
The Bobby Moore fund is the FA’s official charity partner and funds pioneering, lifesaving bowel cancer research. Since the fund was set up in 1993, mortality rates have fallen by 30% and over 23.5million has been raised.
