Nunnery Wood Grab Last Minute Victory

12:11 PM, Friday, 18 March 11. Tesco Cup

The final of the Boys under 13 Tesco Cup was played on Thursday 17th March at Pershore High School, under floodlights on the artificial turf pitch.

The two finalists, Newtown Sports from Malvern and Nunnery Wood Colts from Worcester gave 100% and there was very little to choose between the teams. Newtown took the game to Nunnery in the first half but were unable to convert any chances they created and also found the Nunnery keeper Toby Wilcox to be in excellent form.

With the teams being so evenly matched it was inevitable that the game would go to extra time and it took an excellent strike from Matt Pinder of Nunnery, pushed into attack for the final section of the game, to win the cup with the final kick of the match.

Both teams were presented with medals by Kim Carter, Community Champion for Tesco and Nunnery received the Worcestershire Tesco Cup for 2010/11. Toby Wilcox received the match ball as his man of the match award.

Nunnery Wood Colts will now represent Worcestershire in the Regional Finals of the National Tesco Cup which takes place at Bristol on Saturday 7th May 2011. They will play in a competition against county winners from, Herefordshire, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall who will all be battling for a place in the England Final at Pride Park, Derby. We wish them well.
