Newtown Sports make it two Finals in two in Tesco Cup

Newtown Sports have become the first club to appear in consecutive Finals of the under 13s Worcestershire Tesco Cup after beating West Hagley in the semi finals by a single goal.

. A first half strike from Jon King was enough to take Newtown through in a closely fought match against a strong West Hagley team, who had beaten Warndon Villages in the last round. Newtown who defeated Badsey Rangers in the quarter finals will now look forward to the final being played at Pershore High School at 6.45pm on Thursday 17th March.

In the other semi final Bewdley Town Youth were unable to repeat their excellent performance in the semi finals when they beat the favourites for the competition, Catshill 6-4. Coming up against a strong Nunnery Wood team they found themselves 2-0 down at half time to strikes from Matthew Pinder and Alfie Driskell. Driskell added a third in the second half before Nathan Yates grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal for Bewdley. Nunnery were conquerors of Welland in the quarter finals and will appear in the final of the Tesco competition for the first time.

Everyone is welcome to attend the final between Nunnery Wood and Newtown Sports at Pershore High School on Thursday 17th March, kick off 6.45pm. The winners of the final will represent Worcestershire in the South West Regional Finals at Bristol on Saturday 7th May where they will play winners of similar competitions from Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, Herefordshire, Devon and other counties.
