Football For All Festival

2:30 PM, Wednesday, 02 June 10. Disability Football

Over 80 children with various disabilities participated in the annual WFA Schools 'Get into Football' Festival last week.

Pershore High School played host to the festival which saw 13 teams from 5 disability schools take part.

When asked what the festival was about, Matt Jones, (Football Development Officer) said, ‘The primary aim of the festival is for the children to have fun and enjoy the beautiful game in the hope that they may like to join a local football club’.

The County FA are driving on with plans to develop disability football further following approval from The FA for a 3 Counties League (Worcestershire, Herefordshire & Shropshire) which will see 6 festivals take place throughout the 2010/11 season.

Matt commented ‘It’s an extremely exciting time for disability football within Worcestershire what with the development of the 3 Counties League. The challenge now is to identify volunteers that can assist with developing new clubs and ensure that any child with a disability has access to a local team, as there will be plenty of opportunities to play as of next season’.
